Happy Father's Day!

For the Dad who gets up and plays with his kids at 5:45 in the morning even though he has a 14 hour work day ahead of him,
for the Dad who leaves his iced tea, keys, and sunglasses at the front door when he comes home from work so he can pick his kids up as soon as he walks in,
for the Dad who always makes time to play, for the Dad who comes home from work, looks at his tired and frazzled wife and says "Lola and Jack, where can we go on an adventure and give mommy some time to herself?",
for the Dad who never ever says to his wife, "What exactly do you do all day?",
for the Dad who makes the best pancake breakfast,
for the Dad who makes his wife iced coffee every morning,
for the Dad who doesn't loose his patience when his kids (or wife) hide (or lose) something or break something,
for the Dad who smiles when his kids try and "help",for the Dad who managed not to lose his mind while his wife and children were in the hospital,
for the Dad who still hasn't lost his mind 15 months later,
for the Dad who through all the stress and sleeplessness and tears and worry never lost sight of the laughter,
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! WE LOVE YOU!

Jackson' Haircut

Jackson finally got his first haircut. For a long time Aaron was fighting it. He thought he looked cute with his long hair. Once he admitted it was finally time to cut off his mullet I got cold feet. Would my Jackson go from a baby to a toddler in mere minutes? Well we finally did it. What do you think?

The Mystery Deepens

A while ago I discovered, through a careful process of elimination, that Jackson is allergic to something in a specific brand of hummus. Not all brands, just one particular brand, Sabba. His face turns red around his mouth and also anywhere the hummus has touched his face. He ends up looking like a clown who couldn't draw his mouth on straight. No biggy. He doesn't have trouble breathing. In fact he doesn't seem to have any trouble at all. Aside from looking a little funny there seem to be no real affects. So I haven't worried about it. I quit feeding him that brand of hummus and put in the back of my brain the assignment of someday figuring out which ingredient is causing the problem.

Well now that plot has thickened.

My kids eat peanut butter at least several times a week. It's my "oh no I don't have anything for them to eat. oh yeah I'll give them peanut butter on an apple/bagel/cracker/toast" meal. Until yesterday they've always had all natural peanut butter, the kind where the oil separates and you have to stir it up every time you use it. Well I had some Jiff for a salad dressing recipe so I figured I'd use that. I love it (reminds me of childhood I guess) and so I figured they must love it too! Well the same thing happened to Jackson's face. Take a close look:Now the real science experiment begins. Gotta buy another package of Sabba hummus and compare labels. I'll post the results of our experiment soon.

Little Pangs

I saw a woman unloading her twin girls into her Target cart the other day and I almost burst into tears. She pulled one pink infant seat out of the back of her car and carefully snapped it into place on the top of the cart. I turned and looked because babies are cute and, like most people, I like to catch a glimpse of them whenever there's one around. It barely caught my attention when she walked around the back of the car and reached in the other side. But when she stood up carrying an identical pink infant seat that's when it hit me like POW! The lump that immediately clogged my throat shocked me and I was embarrassed by the tears that formed in my eyes.

Why the waterworks? Reminders of my kids growing up bombard me constantly but rarely are they so poignant. Just yesterday it was me unloading 2 infant carriers into my Target shopping cart. Now I load them into their stroller and push them through the store while pulling the cart. Tomorrow I'll be shopping alone after dropping them off at kindergarten.

And again with the wet eyes. It's just too fast.
